Pelvic Floor PT with Gopi Pillai

Gopi Pillai uses a holistic approach to health management. She combines traditional physical therapy manual treatments, exercise and education with nutrition, relaxation techniques and overall markers for health to find the right blueprint to achieve your goals. She will respectfully coordinate your care with other healthcare disciplines as well as fitness and healing providers as needed.

If you’ve given birth, you can start to feel uncomfortable and experience severe back pain, sciatica, pubic pain or other dysfunctions related to the new demands on your body. Birth-givers can benefit from physical therapy that may combine manual treatment with an individualized exercise plan. The use of proper body mechanics and postural education also support women during these months. After delivery, separation of the abdominal muscles or pubic bone pain can occur, and perineal or C-section scarring can be slow to heal. Postpartum care can encourage the natural healing process and provide new mothers with guidance on how best to care for themselves while meeting the new physical challenges of caring for baby.

Gopi sees patients at The Nurture Nook on Tuesdays.

About Gopi Pillai, PT, DPT, PRPC:

Gopi graduated from Stony Brook University in 2003 with her Doctoral degree in Physical Therapy at which time she started specializing in Women’s Health. She worked on Long Island, NY and eventually moved to NYC where she started the first Women’s Health Physical Therapy services at NY Methodist Hospital in Brooklyn. She went on to open and run a private practice in South Slope Brooklyn specializing in male and female Pelvic Health for 8 wonderful years until her family life brought her to Northern Virginia. Gopi recently earned her Pelvic Rehabilitation Practitioner Certification through the Herman & Wallace Pelvic Rehabilitation Institute.

Gopi started Blueprint Physical Therapy in January of 2019 and has loved getting to know her surroundings while providing home visits in DC, Maryland and Virginia. She is dedicated to continuing education and is a teacher, teaching assistant and lecturer for providers of many healthcare and selfcare disciplines and for the community.
